CALIFORNIA– Names and addresses of FBI agents and others involved in FBI’s investigation of late Beatle John Lennon in the 1970s must be released to historian Jonathan Wiener, a federal District Court in Los Angeles ruled in early December.

The judge said the public’s interest in knowing whether the investigation of Lennon was politically motivated, an interest that could be served by the disclosures, outweighs any privacy interest. The decision upheld the ruling of a magistrate in the case which was remanded by the U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco (9th Cir.) in July 1991.

Wiener is the author of the Lennon biography “Come Together.”
