Maine’s Department of Environmental Protection violated the state’s public records law when it refused to make available records from private meetings it held with paper company officials on cleanup of the Androscoggin River, Attorney General Steven Rowe said. Several public advocacy groups had questioned the legality of the both the meetings and the fact the department let the company keep all records so they would not be available to the public. (1/4/06)
