In Upstate New York, It’s Government in the Sunrise

Two school boards in upstate New York have decided to work out their budget differences in the early morning hours, before most of their constituents even get their kids to school. They’ve set the meetings for 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. respectively, saying it will allow them more time with their families. Robert J. Freeman, executive director of the state’s Committee on Open Government, said the earlier of the meetings might fail to comply with state law requiring meetings at “reasonable” times. (2/13/06)
