First Iraqi Documents from War Released
· Story link
The Pentagon released the first of thousands of documents, collected by U.S. intelligence in the Iraq war, that are expected to be released over the next several months. Many are in Arabic. The release is intended to allow lawmakers and the public to examine what the documents from Saddam Hussein’s regime said about such controversial issues as weapons of mass destruction and al-Qaida in the period before the United States invaded Iraq in March 2003. The Pentagon said one concerned the presence of al-Qaida members in Iraq. The document, translated by the Associated Press, asked state security agents to be on the lookout for two al-Qaida members and provided names and photos. (3/16/06)
