The public will take the victory lap. Georgia’s Court of Appeals said records of Atlanta’s failed bids to lure the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the 2009 Super Bowl must be disclosed to the public because each involved millions of taxpayer dollars. The Chamber of Commerce and another private group had put together the bids – and they fought for over a year to keep the details confidential, even taking back documents given to public officials at one meeting. The Open Records Act, the court said, “does not condone evasive efforts such as those practiced here.” (4/14/06)
