Court Won’t Force Release of Iraqi Security Contractor Names

A federal court in Los Angeles rejected a Freedom of Information Act request of the Los Angeles Times seeking the names of security contractors involved in shooting incidents in Iraq. The Pentagon claimed disclosure of the names would “provide an advantage to insurgents” and allow them to better target contractors providing protection at job sites. Some 60 companies, with 25,000 security employees in Iraq, file “serious incident reports” whenever an employee if fired on or exchanges fire. (7/27/06).
