New York Gov. George Pataki signed new legislation giving citizens who fight for access to government records the right to recover legal fees if they prevail. The law applies to both state and local governments. Advocates said the legislation will help make the state’s Freedom of Information Law an accessible tool for citizens. (8/17/06)
