Iowa Chief Justice Suggests Privacy Data Be Kept Separate in E-Filings,

Iowa’s Chief Justice Marsha Ternus expressed concerns that the state’s transition to an electronic court filing system will erode privacy protections unless there are new court rules and possibly new laws. Two test projects for e-filing are scheduled for later this year. Ternus proposed that certain information in court filings, such as birth dates, children’s names, financial account numbers and Social Security numbers, be submitted in a protected form that would be kept separate and confidential.
