The town of Kitty Hawk has been ordered to pay the Outer Banks Sentinel $75,000 to cover its legal costs in suing for access to copies of contracts, appraisals and other records related to the town’s condemnation of property. A state appellate court ruled earlier that the records were public. In awarding the attorney’s fees, Superior Court Judge Richard Parker said the town had used “totally unwarranted” tactics that increased the legal expenses. (6/20/07)
