Seattle’s Council President is convinced the practices of the police department need to be more transparent, and he’s prepared to go to court to force the release of records of police disciplinary actions. “It disturbs me to see that Seattle is less forthcoming with disclosure of its information than other cities around the state,” said Nick Licata. Police insist they are just following state law. A spokesman for the mayor’s office said the department is bound by a contract with the police union that makes the information private. (8/15/07)
