No gun charges for Miami TV reporter
On Tuesday, the state attorney’s office dropped all charges against local Miami TV reporter Jeffrey Weinsier, who was arrested Oct. 23 for carrying a loaded gun near a high school while working on a story on school violence.
A cameraman caught the encounter on videotape, which the state attorney’s office used in deciding not to pursue the charges.
Weinsier had been charged with resisting arrest, unlawful entry onto school grounds and being in possession of a firearm on school property after officers said he was asked numerous times to cross the street.
“To a point I feel vindicated since the charges are dropped now but I spent hours in the back of a police car, handcuffed I spent hours in the Miami Dade jail for being on a public sidewalk outside of a school,” Weinsier said. “There is something seriously, seriously wrong with that.”
