Almost a dozen media organizations sued North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley, asking the Superior Court to declare that the governor violated the public records law in “systematic deletion, destruction or concealment” of e-mail messages. Easley has since acknowledged that the most prominent e-mail destruction should not have happened and he has appointed a commission to come up with recommendations on new procedures and laws.
