Zachary Babo
Zachary Babo is the Reporters Committee's E.W. Scripps Legal Fellow. Zach joins the Reporters Committee after completing a one-year clerkship with the Hon. Stuart R. Berger on the Appellate Court of Maryland.
Zach attended the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he graduated as the valedictorian of the class of 2022. At UBalt, he served as an associate editor on the University of Baltimore Law Review, as a teaching assistant for introductory writing and research classes, and on the school's Tax Moot Court team. While in school, he gathered diverse legal experience interning at state agencies, indigent client service organizations, litigation-focused corporate firms, and with judges at the Supreme Court of Maryland and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the District of Maryland, respectively.
Prior to law school, Zach was a journalist, producing multimedia content largely covering sports before eventually rejoining a general newsroom at WMAR 2 News in Baltimore. As such, Zach is the Reporters Committee's first E.W. Scripps Fellow who also worked at a Scripps station. He graduated from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in 2007.
