An Afghan journalist, Abdul Samad Rohani, employed by the BBC, was found dead on Sunday in Afghanistan’s southern province of Helmand. The journalist had been kidnapped the day before.
The Afghan government has condemned the killing, declaring Rohani a martyr for carrying out the “holy job of reporting.” The abduction is under investigation. Rohani worked with the BBC Kabul bureau and reported for the BBC World Service in Helmand, one of the country’s most violent areas.
Rohani’s shooting was the second death of a BBC reporter over the weekend. On Saturday, gunmen in Somalia shot Nasteh Dahir, who worked for both the BBC and the Associated Press.
