Legacy giving: Ensuring a free press lives on

You’ve spent a lifetime fighting for and living the ideals of an open government and the freedoms of the First Amendment. Although media in America has changed from broadsheets and newspapers to radio, television, and new digital platforms, the core principle remains consistent: A free press is the most important resource to keep our democracy informed and engaged in our government and our society.

You can ensure that future First Amendment fighters have the legal support they need by remembering the Reporters Committee in your estate planning.

There are several ways in which you can include the Reporters Committee and our mission to protect press freedom in your estate plan. You may designate the Reporters Committee in your will to receive:

  • an outright bequest for a fixed amount
  • the residue of your estate
  • a percentage of the residue of your estate
  • a percentage of your entire estate
  • a bequest contingent upon the failure of other bequests.

If you have a donor-advised fund, you can also make the Reporters Committee a beneficiary of your DAF balances. Learn more about this method of giving on our DAF page.

To ensure that we are aware of your legacy gift, please contact us by email at giving@rcfp.org, by phone at 202-795-9300, or by mail addressed to: 1156 15th St. NW, Suite 1020 | Washington, D.C. 20005. We are here to answer any questions you may have.

To simply give via credit or bank transfer, you can donate to the Reporters Committee online, or mail your contribution to: 1156 15th Street NW, Suite 1020 | Washington, D.C. 20005.
