Roberts: Supreme Court Not Interested in Televising Hearings

Chief Justice John Roberts told a judicial conference that he and his colleagues are not interested in having Supreme Court proceedings televised. Alluding to arguments that televised proceedings would help the public better understand the court, Roberts said, “We don’t have oral arguments to show people, the public, how we function.” He added, “All of the justices view themselves as trustees of an extremely valuable institution. We’re going to be very careful before we do anything that will have an adverse impact on that.” (7/17/06)
