There’s been a sharp increase in federal government whistleblowing since 9/11, and with that a surge in reprisals despite statutory protections, according to testimony at a House Government Affairs subcommittee hearing. “The system is broken,” said Rep. Christopher Shays (R-Ct). The most common, and effective, reprisal presented at the hearing was the loss of security clearance, making employment in any related field impossible. (2/15/06)
